Ex President George HW Bush's Fever Worsens

Former US President George HW Bush has been put on a liquids-only diet by doctors after his fever worsened.

His spokesman Jim McGrath had earlier said that the fever had gone away.

He later corrected himself and said the fever "elevated" in recent days.

McGrath said doctors have been treating the "stubborn" fever with Tylenol but still "haven't nailed down a cause".

He said the bronchitis-like cough that initially brought Mr Bush, 88, to the Houston hospital on November 23 has improved and the 41st president now coughs only about once a day.

The 41st president and his wife, Barbara, spend winters in Texas and summers at their home in Kennebunkport, Maine.
