Ex-Stoke City star James McClean in car crash
Former Stoke City player James McClean has been "involved in a car crash" this morning (January 22). An eyewitness said they saw the 35-year-old ex-Republic of Ireland international at the scene of a collision near Wrexham Golf Club.
His current club, Wrexham AFC, has confirmed that a first-team player had been involved in a car accident on his way to training and would "undergo further medical checks as a precaution", reports North Wales Live. McClean made 102 appearances for Stoke City from 2018 to 2021.
A Wrexham AFC spokesperson said: "Wrexham AFC can confirm that a first-team player has been involved in a car accident this morning on his way to training. It was a single-car accident and the relevant local authorities were quickly present at the scene. The player reported to the club this morning and will undergo further medical checks as a precaution."

A North Wales Police spokesperson added: "Shortly before 9am this morning we received a report of a single-vehicle road traffic collision on the A534 in Wrexham, near to Wrexham Golf Club. Officers and colleagues from North Wales Fire and Rescue Service attended the incident, which had blocked the road until the vehicle was recovered shortly before 10am. No serious injuries were reported from the scene."
