Gritters will hit the streets of Warwickshire tonight as icy -2C temperatures are set to blast our region. Warwickshire Highways has said that is going to be a 'cold and dry' night ahead with roads remaining wet.

Its fleet of gritting machines will be out from 7pm tonight (January 7). This is to help prepare the roads for icy temperatures over the coming days.

The latest local Met Office forecast predicts that temperatures will fall to -2C at 4am tomorrow morning (January 8). It will then fall to -3C at 8am.

It will gradually reach freezing by 11am before rising to 1C by 12noon. But the sub zero temperatures will return by 10pm, when it will be -1C.

The cold weather is set to stay until the weekend with an amber cold weather health alert in place until Sunday (January 12). The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) says the constant cold weather is likely to pile more pressure on health services such as the NHS.

Households, especially those of older residents, are being urged to maintain an 18C heat in their homes as well as wearing multiple layers of thin clothing.
