Exactly when thunderstorms predicted to hit West Midlands amid 'torrential rain' warning

The West Midlands could be battered by thunderstorms this weekend, according to the Met Office. Yellow weather warnings are in place across parts of the UK with torrential rain predicted.

The Met Office issued Birmingham with a yellow thunderstorm warning today (September 21) with a yellow warning for rain in place for Sunday, September 22 to Monday, September 23. As much as 70mm of rainfall has been predicted to fall across affected regions today with 80mm set to fall tomorrow.

Met Office meteorologist, Amy Bokota, told The Mirror: "Not everywhere will see a thunderstorm, it's the hit-and-miss nature of thunderstorms. One place could see torrential downpours, hail, gusty winds, and just down the road, it could be a fine and sunny day."

She added: "We start to get a second system rising from the south as we head into towards the early hours of Sunday. There is a warning in force for this area of rain as well. There is a warning in force for this area of rain as well.

"This is one is slightly different from the one of Saturday. This is a rain warning as opposed to a thunderstorm and we'll be seeing more widespread cloud and more places will see rainfall as well."

A second yellow rain warning shifts eastward with much of Yorkshire, East Anglia and much of England with exception of the South West, the North West, Cumbria and the North East.
