We’re So Excited for This Major 'Saved by the Bell’ Callback in the New Reboot Trailer

Yesterday, August 10th, NBC Peacock’s second Saved By The Bell reboot trailer dropped, and the throwbacks are hitting us right in the nostalgia bone. In the teaser, Mario Lopez’s A.C. Slater says he wishes he could go back in time to when he and Elizabeth Berkley’s Jessie Spano were at Bayside High—and TBH, it looks like he kind of got his wish.

This time, as we expected, Bayside High has been launched into the 21st century, with references to the Kardashians, jabs at how old the high school seniors looked back in the day, modern nods to '80s fashion, and...caffeine pills?

In one trailer moment, Berkley's Spano knocks a bottle of caffeine pills out of a Bayside student's hands.

“At first, they’re so exciting,” she says. “And then, it gets even more exciting, but after that, it gets so scary. And in the end, you ruin your girl group’s shot at a recording contract.”

Of course, this is a callback to one of the most famous scenes in the original Saved by the Bell.

In Season 2 episode "Jessie's Song," Jessie, Kelly Kapowski (Tiffani Thiessen), and Lisa Turtle (Lark Voorhies) have a chance at a recording contract for their girl group. But, Jessie is overwhelmed with that obligation and the stress of midterms and she begins taking over-the-counter caffeine pills. It leads to her breakdown with Zack Morris (Mark-Paul Gosselaar).

For those who want a refresher on that first (and quite dramatic) scene that this bit refers to, you can watch it below:

Though there’s no sign of him yet in this teaser trailer, Gosselaar’s Zack Morris is supposed to make a few cameos in the series. Mitchell Hoag plays Mac Morris, Zack’s high-school-aged son who obviously picked up a few schemes from his dad. And Theissen’s Kelly is also rumored to make a comeback.

Perhaps another trailer will drop before the series begins streaming on Peacock, NBC’s streaming site that launched in April, giving us even more to look forward to. We hate to go for the easy joke here, but we truly are so excited.
