Britannia is investing millions of pounds into the Grand Hotel in Llandudno, which has faced criticism in recent years and is currently one of the lowest-rated hotels in the town on review sites like Tripadvisor. The hotel's prominent location next to Llandudno Pier has raised concerns about its impact on the resort as a whole.

However, Aberconwy MS Janet Finch-Saunders has been informed that Britannia has already made significant investments and plans to spend an additional £3m on the exterior of the property next year, including balcony refurbishments. Finch-Saunders recently visited the site with senior Britannia staff, including Bob Down, Senior Operations Manager, Helen Reece, Area Manager Hotels and Holiday Parks, and Lee Jones, Director of Operations.

The team disclosed to the Senedd member that the following investments have been made or are planned, reports North Wales Live.

  • Refurbishment of the ballroom (completed)

  • Refurbishment of the 170 bedrooms (ongoing)

  • £2.3million investment in upgrading the hearing system (completed)

  • £3million on outside works (set to commence in March 2025)

Finch-Saunders said: "I would like to thank Britannia Hotels for listening and acting. It is truly fantastic news that over £5million is being invested in The Grand Hotel. I have seen first-hand some of the refurbished bedrooms rooms, the ball room, and restaurant. The team have done a brilliant job and retained the historic character of the property.

"The Grand Hotel is turning a corner, and I am proud to be the first to stand up and congratulate all involved in the massive investment being made on what is an exciting journey for the establishment, our town, and region. I'm looking forward to seeing the refurbished balconies, and hosting an event at the hotel in due course".
