AEW boss Tony Khan revealed he had purchased Ring of Honor in February, months after the company had announced it was going on a hiatus.

Since Khan's purchase of the company has seen Ring of Honor talent and its championships integrated into AEW, with title defences taking place on Dynamite in between stand-alone ROH pay-per-views.

At Death Before Dishonor in July, Claudio Castagnoli captured the ROH Championship for the first time in his career, after making his name in the company before he signed with WWE in 2011.

Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy, Castagnoli shared how it felt to win the championship for the first time, 11 years after he last wrestled under the ROH banner.

"It was great for me and kind of a full circle moment to come back to Ring of Honor and win the world championship ten plus years after I left there," he said.

"Winning the Ring of Honor Championship is something that I never achieved in my first run with the company. So it was very very fulfilling for me and it made me very happy. It was also my first World Championship, well second if you could PWG, but it was very special for me."

As an ROH veteran, Castagnoli was happy to hear that Khan was, not only now in charge of Ring of Honor, but also in possession of the company's vast video library.

"I thought it was it was very, very smart and very good for him to purchase Ring of Honor and that video library," Castagnoli said.

"There's a lot of guys that came up through Ring of Honor that are in AEW now and it just opens the door for very cool video packages.

"There's also some awesome matches that people want to see that he now owns that can be put on YouTube or used for clips and explaining stories. It just gives it a rich, even more meaningful history."

Khan is yet to announce his plans for Ring of Honor's future but many fans expect a TV or streaming deal to be coming soon.

Speaking about what he would like for the future of Ring of Honor, Castagnoli said: "I would like to see Ring of Honor return to a standalone show and I think that's what Tony's working on, so let's hope that will happen in the next year.

"I hope that the Ring of Honor brand flourishes again and can have multiple pay-per-views a year and expose people to the great style that Ring of Honor was and is," he continued.

"Hopefully it's going to be a home for more new talent to break through and make a name for themselves, much like a lot of us did with the original Ring of Honor."
