With the Covid-19 pandemic, many couples have been forced to delay or even scrap their wedding plans.

But AEW's Kip Sabian and Penelope Ford found a way to make sure that everyone was invited to their wedding – by having the ceremony live on Dynamite.

Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy, the newlyweds revealed extra details about their wrestling wedding, which went off without a hitch (until Orange Cassidy appeared).

"My dad thought it was a joke to start with," Kip said of the moment he told his parents he was getting married on TV. "Then obviously it happened. But they were super excited.

"I think if the situation with what is going on in the world was different then it would have been a different scenario for us. But with my parents being in the UK, there was no way for them to come over for anything.

"So it just kind of all slotted into place that we did it live on TV and then they got to watch it."

The idea to have the wedding on Dynamite came not long after Kip and Penelope became engaged last year.

"We got engaged and I guess it sparked some ideas, then they brought it to us," Penelope said.

"We hashed it out like, 'Does this work for us? Does this work for everyone involved?' They put a lot of time into making sure it was how we wanted it to be," Kip continued.

"Penelope and I always talked about a beach wedding, so to do it at Beach Break tied that in."

One of the big surprises for fans was the appearance of 'The Sinister Minister' James Mitchell, who served as the officiant.

And it turns out, James' appearance was also a big shock to Kip. "I found out on the day [of Dynamite]," he said.

"I saw James Mitchell there and I was like, 'Wait, what are you doing here? Oh... wait a second, this now all falls into place.'

"Other people knew before me, but it just somehow had gone under the radar. They thought I knew but I didn't know. It was a nice little surprise on the day."

Kip's best man for the ceremony was ex-WWE Superstar Miro and many fans were left wondering if Kip did actually get a bachelor party since it never aired on television.

When asked if he had a bachelor party, Kip teased: "That would be telling. I can't go into specific details, but there were certain provisions put into place, you guys just didn't get to see it."

A week into married life, Kip and Penelope say not much has changed. "Honest opinion, we were saying this the other day, it basically feels the same," Kip said.

"We just have an extra ring now. We already felt like we were married anyway, so now it's just official."

AEW Dynamite airs Thursdays at 1am on Fite TV in the UK and on Fridays at 11pm on ITV4.
