Casualty spoilers follow.
Casualty star Charles Venn has hinted that his character Jacob Masters could potentially be about to enjoy a new romance after splitting from Connie Beauchamp again.
Jacob suffered a traumatic ordeal in last night's episode (January 30) after he was targeted by Roy, the widowed husband of a late patient. With an explosive belt strapped to himself, Roy demanded to speak to Jacob – who he held responsible for his wife's death – before detonating the bomb outside the hospital.
Thankfully Jacob got away safely but his terrifying near-death experience will cause him to reassess his priorities – and it looks like Jacob might be ready to move on after his latest break-up with Connie (Amanda Mealing), who called off their relationship again recently after Noel Garcia (Tony Marshall)'s sad death from COVID-19.
The episode ended with Jacob inviting agency nurse Tina Mollett (Adele James) out for a drink, a moment which a despondent Connie watched from afar. But does this mean Jacob and Connie are over?
Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy, Charles revealed that Jacob is indeed considering pursuing a romance with Tina following his near-death experience.
"It does have an impact on Jacob in the sense that life is short – COVID reminded him of that and now this situation with Roy," he told us. "He is going to view it as a second or even third chance – what do you do with something like that?
"He begins to entertain the idea of seeing Tina; somebody who doesn't seem to have the same commitment issues as Connie, who actually wants to let him in and is open to receiving a sense of intimacy. That is what Jacob feels he needs now – he can't deal with this uncertainty all the time. Life is too short."
But could Tina be the one for Jacob? Charles isn't too sure whether Jacob is ready to dive into another serious relationship just yet, considering how intense his time with Connie has been.
"There is a spark and a bit of chemistry there between him and Tina. But is it something that would go beyond a cheeky kiss? Who knows," the actor told us. "I don't actually know if that is where Jacob's mind is at this stage.
"He's just come out of something really intense in his on-off relationship with Connie to dive straight into another one. I'm not sure if that's Jacob's intention. Work is his priority and there is so much going on in his life. I'm not sure if the thing with Tina is something that will develop or not – we will have to wait and see."
Whether this means the end of the road for Jacob and Connie or not remains to be seen...
