Celebrity hotspot Bluebird Chelsea will open a huge new flagship clothing store and restaurant in the heart of Covent Garden.

The exclusive west London venue — which calls Made In Chelsea stars Millie Mackintosh, Louise Thompson and Lucy Watson, plus Lottie Moss and Tamara Ecclestone regulars — will open in Carriage Hall, Floral Street, early next year.

Called The Shop at Bluebird, the new 15,000 sq ft space will be set over three floors with an expansive restaurant on the second.

The original King’s Road Bluebird includes a restaurant — where former head chefs have included the Michelin-starred Chris Galvin and Masterchef judge John Torode — cafe, terrace bar and clothes shop.

It is not yet clear whether the second-floor restaurant in Carriage Hall will be a similar offering to Bluebird Chelsea.

Carriage Hall, a 19th-century Grade II listed building yards from the Covent Garden Piazza, has recently had a multi-million-pound refurbishment. For the past week, it has hosted a number of Fashion Week shows.

The hall upgrade is the latest part of a major redevelopment of Floral Street — one of Covent Garden’s most exclusive shopping areas.

It is a stone’s throw from upmarket interiors and flower store Petersham Nurseries — where Madonna, Mick Jagger and Stella McCartney are known to shop — which opened its first central London offshoot in Covent Garden this year.

Michelle McGrath, director of Capco Covent Garden which owns Carriage Hall, said: “The Shop at Bluebird is the perfect fit for Carriage Hall and Floral Street, which is returning to its fashion and lifestyle roots.

“Their retail excellence and curated luxury will set this new flagship store apart and complements our vision for Covent Garden, where we are creating a differentiated lifestyle location for our visitors.”

Bluebird Chelsea is set in a Grade II listed building that was originally a garage for the Bluebird Motor Company. Built in 1923, it was an ambulance building and a fashion market before Sir Terence Conran’s restaurant group transformed it into the Bluebird Gastrodrome in 1997. D&D London bought it from Conran in 2006.

The Shop at Bluebird — a clothes, furniture and book shop that was launched in 2005 — is owned by Jigsaw Group.

Peter Ruis, CEO of The Jigsaw Group, said: “The Shop at Bluebird is London’s foremost concept store. In Carriage Hall and Covent Garden, we have found the ultimate opportunity to take it to the next level.

“In a world full of mediocre, identikit shop concepts, the Shop at Bluebird will be a celebration of only the finest in luxury fashion, beauty, home, lifestyle and food. It will be an international destination for all those who seek excellence in retail.”
