Peaky Blinders star Charlie Murphy has given us an "exciting" update on Happy Valley series three, five years after we last caught up with Catherine Cawood and the rest of the force.

Charlie sat down with Digital Spy for an exclusive chat about her new movie The Winter Lake and offered us some good news about the BBC One drama along the way, revealing that creator Sally Wainwright has officially started the writing process.

"Sally's taken up the pen again now, so yeah, we'll see what happens," she told us. "It's really exciting. She's just focusing on it now, which is exciting.

"She's just an incredible writer. I just can't wait to see what she pulls out of the bag for it."

As for when fans might be able to expect the third run of Happy Valley, Charlie – who plays Ann Gallagher – revealed that 2022 is a reasonable guess. "I'd so, yeah," she said. "Timeline-wise, probably [2022]."

Of course, Charlie's in the dark about what's next for her character, but she did reveal what she'd like to see. Unsurprisingly, it's plenty of scenes with her co-stars Sarah Lancashire and Siobhan Finneran, who play Catherine Cawood and Clare Cartwright, respectively.

"They're just so much fun to work with," Charlie told us. "And if storylines keep weaving with them, that would be fantastic. They're just so much fun. That would be the thing to do with that."
