Holby City spoilers follow.

Holby City star Nic Jackman has teased Cameron Dunn's darkest move yet when the show returns.

The BBC medical drama returns to screens next week, after three months off air due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Prior to the hiatus, Cameron's reign of terror on the hospital had seen him claim the lives of villainous Evan Crowhurst and Zav Duval.

Cameron also began a tentative romance with his besotted friend Nicky, who is oblivious to his true colours.

Speaking about whether Cameron will get his comeuppance eventually, Nic – who plays him – told Digital Spy: "I think both the audience and me would love to see him squirm. We have to see that and we have to see him have his comeuppance.

"I can't say much more and I'm not entirely [sure] at this stage. We've seen him do many bad things and the audience would certainly like to see justice served."

Nic added: "What is important here is the story and the quality of the material they've given me is so exciting, especially scripts I've seen coming up. It's bigger and bolder than ever.

"If you think you've seen Cameron at his worst, you really haven't. In the next few months, we see that he's capable of much more and it becomes very, very dark.

"For me, as an actor, to get that material has just been massive. It's a challenge and so good to get my teeth into."

Hinting that Nicky could be heading for heartbreak, Nic said: "It all happened very quickly, didn't it? She literally paid him a compliment and then all of a sudden they were sleeping together.

"For Cameron, as soon as he's got someone on side, he knows he is able to manipulate them. What he does well is he plays people to give himself an advantage and that is all part of his quest to becoming the best doctor and the best surgeon. He really doesn't think twice about using people.

"There is more stuff for Nicky and Cameron for sure, especially when she sees Cameron as having this hero status. It's safe to say that Cameron has got his sights elsewhere and Nicky may not be the most important person in his life."

Holby City returns on Tuesday, November 10 at 8.15pm on BBC One.
