Exclusive: Holby City star speaks out on Dom and Lofty’s future

From Digital Spy

Holby City star David Ames has revealed what's next for Dom Copeland and Lofty Chiltern, in an exclusive chat with Digital Spy.

The couple's lives were changed forever in Tuesday's episode, when Helen and Lofty's unborn baby tragically died.

The BBC medical drama had previously confirmed a harrowing stillbirth storyline for the trio, which saw Helen give birth to a baby boy after doctors were unable to find a heartbeat.

Speaking to Digital Spy about how this is going to impact Dom and Lofty's relationship moving forward, David – who plays Dom – said: "Well, we will have to wait and find out. It is going to be a tough time.

"As a subject matter, it is an incredibly sensitive subject for lots of mothers and fathers out there and people watching will hopefully gain something from the way we have handled the storyline and see that it affects many people in different ways.

"With Dom, he isn’t the paternal blood father and we see how this affects him too. We have tried to be very sensitive to everyone involved and how it affects each individual person."

When asked about Dom and Lofty's long-term future, David remained tight-lipped – but he did confirm a vow renewal in the coming weeks.

"Indeed a vow renewal is on the cards. It is actually Lofty’s suggestion. It is going to be an interesting time for them, but at the root of it is their love for each other.

"I think they are a gorgeous couple. They have done so much for each other, they have helped each other grow.

"We have tried to shine a light on all the foibles that everyone goes through in relationship and we’ve tried to depict them as realistically as possible to show it’s not always plain-sailing."

Holby City continues on Tuesday, November 26 at 8pm on BBC One.
