Hollyoaks spoilers follow.

Hollyoaks star Anna Passey has hinted at another chapter of Summer Ranger's storyline after Wednesday night's big cliffhanger.

The show's latest episode saw Anna's character Sienna Blake feature in dramatic scenes with Summer as they went head-to-head for a sinister showdown.

Summer decided on a dark plan to kill Sienna in order to punish Brody Hudson once and for all. However, Liberty Savage saved the day and ultimately shot Summer in the chaos that followed.

Despite her injury, Summer managed to get away and Sienna was convinced that their dangerous game of cat and mouse wasn't over.

Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy about what could come next in the story, Anna explained: "I think that people should listen to Sienna's last words on the matter – this isn't over!

"Sienna knows Summer better than anyone. She's been there and done it herself.

"I think that if anybody can predict what's going to happen, it will be Sienna and she is convinced there is more to come."

Sienna and Summer had embarked on a surprising relationship in recent weeks, putting aside their previous history of animosity.

However, in the end, Summer's quest for revenge against Brody overwhelmed her and became her main priority.

Asked about Sienna and Summer's showdown, Anna replied: "It was a surprise, but it was also what I'd imagined might happen. With these two characters, we had to go some place dark.

"They're two super strong characters that have both done some terrible things. They play cat and mouse with each other, so there had to come a point where both characters went head-to-head.

"I think it will be bittersweet for some viewers, because people have grown to like seeing these two characters together. They make such a good couple and they're so similar in so many ways.

"You root for them to work out, because there's something so lovely between them, underneath all the madness.

"I think there will be a little bit of disappointment that there's an ending like this. But I will just say, if anyone can forgive Summer, it would be Sienna because she's done the same things.

"Sienna can see how Summer got here. You never know – never say never, there might be room for some sort of reconciliation.

"It is possible for characters to be redeemed and Hollyoaks are ever so good at doing it! There are no two-dimensional bad guys in this show."

Anna went on to praise co-star Rhiannon Clements, who plays Summer, for her work on the storyline.

She said: "I love working with Rhiannon. She's not only very talented but also so fun to be around. We were looking forward to the showdown as it had been a long time coming. We had a really good time shooting it.

"Rhiannon is now up for Best Newcomer at the National Television Awards and I'm so thrilled and so excited for her. I can't sing her praises enough – it's fully deserved and I'd love to see her win it."

Hollyoaks airs weeknights at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first look screenings at 7pm on E4.
