Hollyoaks spoilers follow.
Hollyoaks newcomer Bethannie Hare has spoken to Digital Spy about Cher Winters's romantic connection with Romeo Nightingale.
The soap has teased a possible chemistry between the two characters, who are now working together at local pub The Dog in the Pond.
In Tuesday's E4 first look episode (September 15), Goldie McQueen and Joel Dexter can't resist meddling as they try to play matchmaker between Cher and Romeo.
Despite this, Cher insists on putting Romeo (Owen Warner) firmly in the friend zone – leaving him secretly disappointed. Will he need to work harder to win her over?
Chatting to Digital Spy about the new storyline, Bethannie explained: "Goldie can see that Cher and Romeo both like each other, but they're too stubborn to admit it. Goldie tries to do her best to get them to be more honest with each other.
"Goldie tries to speak to Cher, and Joel tries to speak to Romeo. Cher is a bit embarrassed as Goldie is her auntie, so she doesn't want to tell her how she feels about Romeo!
"Romeo really likes Cher, but she wants to play hard to get. She loves the chase so much, so she doesn't want to give in straight away.
"Cher definitely likes Romeo – and not as a friend! I think she's playing hard to get but she also doesn't want to let Romeo in. She's worried that Romeo might find out certain things about her – and that he won't like her anymore if he does."
She continued: "I think they make a good match. They're both so different, but I think it works well. You've got Romeo with his poetry and then Cher loves her magazines! They'd work well together, even though they're complete opposites.
"Owen is so nice to work with – he's so genuine and down-to-earth. He's a really good friend. Since I started, he's been making sure I'm okay at work and making sure I'm happy with what I've done. He's really nice."
