Hollyoaks star Billy Price has admitted that his character Sid Sumner can be seen as a "massive contender" in the show's body bag mystery.

Fans of the Channel 4 soap have been warned to expect a shock death in December 2020, as a recent flashforward episode showed a body bag and crime scene outside The Hutch.

As Sid is closely involved with Hollyoaks' new County Lines drug dealing storyline, he's among the characters who could be in danger over the course of this year.

Worryingly, Sid didn't physically appear in any of the flashforward scenes in the recent special episode. Viewers only saw a glimpse of Sid's broken guitar, while an anxious Leela Lomax was looking for him around the village.

Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy about the mystery of who dies, Billy explained: "Sid's a massive contender! The audience should be worried. But there are so many other characters in the mix too – and things that are happening this year that haven't been shown yet – so there are so many different contenders.

"At some points in the year, people will be thinking: 'Sid will definitely be in the body bag'. Then at other points, people might think differently. It keeps you on a string and you'll be worried about so many different characters.

"I think you should be worried about Sid, but it might change over the course of the year."

Asked whether he'd be disappointed if the writers choose to kill off Sid, Billy replied: "I've said this from the get-go – it was a pleasure to carry on in the show and be made a regular. I'd love to stay in Hollyoaks.

"But depending on the outcome the story writers have in mind, I'd want it to be the best ending for Sid, so the viewers get the best reaction and feeling out of it, rather than just me getting another year in the show! I'd want the viewers to feel like Sid got the best ending."

Many Hollyoaks fans will be hoping that Sid does survive the year, after his turnaround in popularity in recent months. Sid was hated when he was introduced as the son of far-right leader Stuart last year, but the show has explored different sides of his character since he was promoted to a regular.

Discussing the changing viewer opinions, Billy laughed: "I can't not love it, can I? It's been really nice. I remember reading my first scripts and when I saw Sid's lines, I thought: 'There's no way I'm going to be able to say that!'

"Now I just feel like Sid is a character that a lot of kids can relate to. He's been through a lot of different experiences. He's a relatable character, which I think makes him well-liked."

Hollyoaks airs weeknights at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first look screenings at 7pm on E4.
