Hollyoaks star Eva O'Hara has hinted that her character Verity Hutchinson could oppose her father's twisted plans to ruin Tony's marriage.
Next week's episodes see Verity return to the village and become a confidante for Edward, who explains that he wants to steal Diane for himself.
This follows an awkward comeback for Verity, who finds herself caught up in Tony and Diane's marriage crisis from the start.
Tony is upset with Diane for sleeping with another man when he was trapped on Breda McQueen's pig farm. Wanting to even the score, he crosses paths with Verity on a night out and asks her to give him a kiss – only to then learn that she's his sister.
Speaking about the surprising turn of events, Eva told Digital Spy: "It's not the return that Verity was expecting from her brother! But I do believe she handles things like that really, really well.
"I think because Verity knows that she has this air of confidence, men do tend to try it on. So I think she can understand the circumstances, but it does put her in a difficult position with new family members that she doesn't know so well like Diane, who perhaps may have thought of her as a bit of a spoiled character when she came in.
"To then have that to navigate and deal with, is going to be quite difficult. I think actually it could bring her and Diane closer together, because of Verity's want for Tony and Diane to make it. It's an interesting route for her relationship with her dad."
Eva also revealed how Verity reacts when Edward shares his malicious plans to ruin things for Tony and Diane.
She said: "I think it's 'typical dad', in the sense that he always gets his way and he will stick to the things that he wants, but this one is a real pull on the heart strings for Verity, because she can see the happiness that this functioning relationship has for Diane and Tony now.
"There are scenes in which I can see Verity holding back and really wanting to say something, but I do think that allows the cunning within her, as the episodes progress, to really flourish. She actually ends up using her talent to somewhat manipulate her father and actually turn the tables a little bit, which is really fun.
"In her heart, Verity knows that Diane and Tony are 'the' relationship, but it's all about navigating things with her father and not turning him against her because I don't think she could bear that, but for sure she is team Diane and Tony."
Hollyoaks airs weeknights at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first look screenings at 7pm on E4.
