Ever since Hollyoaks teased the death of one of its major characters with a flashforward episode last month, fans have been desperate to know who will be in the glimpsed body bag come New Year 2020.

However, the actors are just as desperate for answers, as star Gregory Finnegan has revealed that he's got no idea as to the unlucky individual's identity.

Talking to Digital Spy, he said that he's aware of several rumours going round but that he doesn't think anyone on set definitively knows who's due to bite the dust.

"I've heard speculation! But I don't know who's in it. It doesn't do to dwell on body bags in Hollyoaks – you never know, it could be a fake-out or a twist," Gregory teased.

"With those kinds of things, there's probably not much point in giving it too much thought. But I'm sure when it does come out, it'll be a surprise and keep everyone guessing to the last."

When asked whether his character, lawyer James Nightingale, will be involved in the County Lines drugs storyline, especially with younger half-sister Juliet part of it, Gregory confirmed that he would be.

"We're filming some of it already and James is definitely involved, partly because of the legal side of things as well," he said.

"But I don't really have a clue what's happening in 2020 for James, I'm just going with the flow at the moment and seeing what comes up."

And the actor also spoke about Rishi Nair's recent tease that Sami, James and Verity may be starting their own law firm in the village.

Asked if he'd heard anything about it, Gregory said: "Nothing that Rishi hasn't told me! (Laughs.)

"Nobody in any official capacity has told me that we're going to form a law firm or get premises! But he tells me that might be happening. Watch this space..."

Gregory is nominated for Best Serial Drama Performance at the NTAs, and you can currently vote for winners in every category via the ceremony's official website.

Hollyoaks airs Mondays through Fridays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first look episodes airing on E4 at 7pm.
