Hollyoaks spoilers follow.
Hollyoaks star Jorgie Porter has revealed that Theresa McQueen's return plot had to be changed due to COVID-19 restrictions.
The actress has reprised her role as Theresa for the show's 25th anniversary celebrations and will be back on screen from tonight's E4 first look episode (October 14).
Theresa reappears just in time for the McQueens' next big crisis, as they're targeted by a mystery blackmailer who wants to expose all of their secrets.
Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy about Theresa's comeback, Jorgie explained: "I think some things had to change because of COVID. There was a storyline, but we've had to go with what we can do under the circumstances.
"I was told what the storyline was going to be, but then it had to be adjusted in certain ways. I'm still really grateful to have the storyline, though!"
In the coming days, the McQueens are horrified as they receive a sinister doll, which plays a recorded message threatening them all.
The doll accuses the McQueens of committing the seven deadly sins and vows to reveal all unless they pay up.
Jorgie explained: "When the doll arrives, it sparks a big blackmail story. I love it when we do a cool, creepy storyline like this. All of the McQueens are being blackmailed for money.
"It puts the family in massive jeopardy because they don't trust each other and they turn on each other a bit.
"There's so much finger-pointing at everyone as they try to figure out who the blackmailer is. They look at the reasons why – who hates who for what reason. The McQueens also become a bit suspicious of each other, and they all find out each other's secrets."
Unsurprisingly, Jorgie stayed tight-lipped on who the blackmailer could be.
However, asked whether the outcome will be a big shock, Jorgie teased: "I think so. I think you'll all be very excited. It's the 25th birthday, which is a big deal for Hollyoaks, and you just don't know who's going to pop up…"
Hollyoaks currently airs new episodes from Mondays to Thursdays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first look screenings at 7pm on E4. Classic episodes, titled Hollyoaks Favourites, air on Fridays at 7pm on E4.
