Hollyoaks spoilers follow.

Hollyoaks star Tomi Ade has officially confirmed his departure from the role of DeMarcus Westwood.

The actor spoke about his exit from the show in an exclusive chat with Digital Spy at the British Soap Awards 2023.

Last month, DeMarcus told his dad Felix that he wanted to make a fresh start in the US.

Felix initially opposed the idea, but after some words of advice from his best friend Warren Fox, he realised that he needed to support his son.

Speaking to Digital Spy, Tomi confirmed: "I had a two-year stint of DeMarcus and tried to bring everything that I could to the character. I hope I have! I hope I've done everything I could with the character.

"Now DeMarcus is off to America. I was super-pleased [with the exit story], as going to America is such a great opportunity. And I feel like me and DeMarcus might relate in that way a little bit!"

Asked whether this is a hint to his future career plans, Tomi laughed: "Maybe!"

Tomi named last year's knife crime plot as the highlight of his time at Hollyoaks. The emotional story saw DeMarcus framed for killing policeman Saul Reeves, but the real culprit was his enemy Joseph Holmes.

Reflecting on DeMarcus getting so many tough storylines, Tomi added: "Sometimes I wanted to smile and wanted to be happy, but a lot of DeMarcus' stories were super important and things that needed to be tackled. I'm just proud of that."

Tomi joined the cast of Hollyoaks in autumn 2021.

Hollyoaks streams first online via Channel 4, with new episodes dropping each weekday morning. The show airs Mondays to Fridays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, and at 7pm on E4.

Selected omnibus episodes are available via Prime Video.
