Exclusive: Home and Away star Lynne McGranger on Jasmine Delaney's future

From Digital Spy

Home and Away spoilers follow for UK viewers.

Home and Away star Lynne McGranger has spoken to Digital Spy about the importance of showing hope for Jasmine Delaney's future in Summer Bay.

Lynne's character Irene Roberts steps up her attempts to help Jasmine in this week's episodes on Channel 5, tracking her down on the Shaw family farm and urging her to come home.

Recent scenes on air in the UK have seen Jasmine flee from the Bay after facing a backlash over her obsession with Tori Morgan's baby daughter Grace.

In future episodes, the show will delve deeper into the reasons for Jasmine's behaviour, as her loved ones encourage her to agree to a mental health plan.

Speaking to Digital Spy about Home and Away portraying hope for Jasmine's future, Lynne commented: "It is important to show. There are a lot of people out there who are suffering from mental health issues themselves for whatever reason.

"But there are also people out there who have taken umbrage at Jasmine's behaviour and I really think it's important they see that it's because Jasmine is unwell and that her journey of recovery is brought to life and people witness that.

"People that have, or have had, mental health issues themselves can see that there is light at the end of the tunnel. Also, people who are heavily invested in the show will see that Jasmine is not behaving like she behaves because she's a piece of work, she's behaving like she's been behaving because she is unwell.

"Seeing a therapist and getting support from her family and friends is another step closer to her recovery."

Discussing Irene's visit to Jasmine, Lynne continued: "Irene wants Jasmine to come back and face her demons and sort out her problem. She realises that running away and burying your head in the sand is not the answer.

"Also, we find out that the Shaws have no idea what's been going down back in the Bay. When they find out, they also agree with Irene and say: 'You need to go back and sort it. You are welcome here anytime, but go back and sort out your problems, sort out your issues, work out whatever with Tori and Justin, as coming here and burying your head in the sand is not the answer'.

"Jasmine is horrified when Irene and Colby turn up. She is totally 'pee'd off' that they've come after her and found her. She left the Bay because she didn't want anything to do with anybody at the moment. She wants to be near Robbo's parents, she wants to forget about everything that's going on in the Bay and just work on the farm and escape.

"But of course, the Shaws realise this is not the answer and it's Ian and Wendy who convince her that she needs to go back to the Bay."

Lynne went on to praise Sam Frost, who plays Jasmine, for her work on the emotional storyline.

She said: "Sam Frost is exceptional. She has gone from working on a reality television show, she came into Home and Away under a cloud of 'oh she's only this' or 'oh, she's only that', 'she's only been on The Bachelorette', 'she's only been on radio'.

"She has just gone from strength to strength. Her capacity in highly emotional situations is astonishing. I love working with her, we laugh a lot. Not always at the right time I might add, but she is great fun. Sam is very passionate about her work and lots and lots of fun to work with.

"She's also a really nice human being and I really hope at the end of this journey of Jasmine, that people who have been giving her a hard time online because she's playing a character very well, will realise that Sam Frost is a great actress."

Home and Away airs weekdays at 1.15pm and 6pm on Channel 5 (UK) and Mondays to Thursdays at 7pm on Channel 7 (Australia).
