Home and Away spoilers follow.
Home and Away lost a solid couple in the form of Ari Parata and Mackenzie Booth when the pair split up earlier this year and it turns out that it isn't just fans who were upset to see them go their separate ways.
Actor Rob Kipa-Williams, who plays Ari, has exclusively told Digital Spy that Ari's split with Mac, which happened after Ari decided that he wanted to be a family with his ex-partner Mia Anderson and stepdaughter Chloe Anderson again, left him disappointed.
"I was really sad about it," he said of his reaction to the Ari and Mac split. "I liked the on-screen bond that Emily Weir (who plays Mac) and I have formed and I liked the idea of them staying as a solid couple throughout the time that Ari is on Home and Away screens.
"There was something I always liked about what the Astoni family had and I felt would be quite cool to be that character that isn't a player and he is solid and committed to his relationships."
But could there ever be a way back for Ari and Mac, despite what's happened over the past few months? Rob isn't so sure.
"I think there's always a chance for rekindling relationships," he told us. "Mack has become quite hurt from it all though."
Whether Ari and Mac will ever decide to give things another go remains to be seen, but for now, Ari is enjoying being part of a family unit with Mia and Chloe again following their return to the Bay.
Actor Rob revealed that he has loved having the opportunity to delve into Ari's history a little more and to explore how his past has shaped him.
"It's helped us to explore why and how Ari ended up in prison, and I think that's interesting to play as an actor when you're steeped with so much back story and history between two characters," he said of the story. "It enables you to really create something special."
Rob was also full of praise for his co-stars Anna Samson, who plays Mia, and Sam Barrett, who plays Chloe, saying that he has been loving working so closely with the pair.
"It's a pleasure working with Anna, we get on really well, we are like best buddies," he said. "I think that works really well for the previous relationship that you will see on screen and it's been really nice.
"With Sam, she's a really talented actress and we get to delve into the past together, and you'll get to see a softer side of Ari in the way that Sam plays her character. And I think people will be surprised at the father figure that he has forgotten he is, or was."
While Ari finds his way to being a family with Mia and Chloe again, Mac is pregnant with Ari's baby, but is set to face devastating news about her baby on UK screens next week.
Home and Away airs weekdays at 1.15pm and 6pm on Channel 5 (UK) and Mondays to Thursdays at 7pm on Channel 7 (Australia). Selected classic episodes are available via Amazon Prime Video in the UK.
