Former Coronation Street babe Michelle Keegan turned heads on the red carpet at the National Television Awards last night, showing off her enviable figure.

But the actress, who has often faced criticism for appearing ‘too thin’, admitted on the red carpet that she’s looking to gain some weight—and it’s all for her new role.

Michelle is set to star in the next series of BBC One’s Our Girl, playing a medical officer in a war zone. EastEnders star Lacey Turner starred in the first series.

Speaking to Yahoo Celebrity about how she’s prepared for the gruelling eight-week shoot in Africa, Michelle said: “I’ve been doing training in the gym, trying to get fit.”

Has she changed her diet? She added, “You would think I’d have to diet but if anything I want to put on a bit of bulk. I’m eating quite a lot!”

The 28-year-old beauty was a vision in black-and-blue on the red carpet with husband Mark Wright, who was celebrating his birthday on Wednesday (20 January).

Michelle revealed what she bought the ex-TOWIE star this year for his birthday gift, but says she initially struggled to think of a good present.

“I bought him a bike. I didn’t know what to get him … his mates started doing all this cycling now, I thought in the summer he could get on his bike,” she said.
