Neighbours spoilers follow for UK viewers.
Harlow and Brent have become close friends over recent weeks, much to the annoyance of Paul Robinson, but their friendship turns into something more when Harlow realises her feelings for Brent amid his feud with Hendrix Greyson.
Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy, Jemma admitted that Harlow and Brent's upcoming kiss initially came as a "surprise", and that the actress "spent a bit of time with the writers and producers talking it through and making sure the story is told appropriately and truthfully".
Sharing her thoughts on why Harlow is more forgiving of Brent than she has been of Hendrix, Jemma continued: "I think there was a genuine want for change from Brent and it was shown through his actions.
"For Harlow, that was promising and could also see that he wanted to do good and move forward."
As for Harlow and Brent's first kiss, Harlow is the one to make the first move. "She kisses him impulsively and she suddenly freaks that she isn't ready and then pulls back," Jemma explained. "She questions herself, is this really what she wants?"
Jemma went on to concede that she is a little "sad" to see Harlow and Hendrix call it a day, but that she's "definitely open-minded" about where her character's love life could go in the future.
"Either way would be cool," she said of a Brent or Hendrix conundrum. "But it would also be interesting to explore other relationships."
Neighbours airs weekdays at 1.45pm and 5.30pm on Channel 5.
