Neighbours spoilers follow.
Neighbours star Ben Hall has revealed that there's a "complex" storyline on the way for Ned Willis in the coming months.
The actor spoke to Digital Spy about longer-term plans for his character, who has been appearing on the show since 2016.
Upcoming episodes on Channel 5 see Ned continue to grow closer to the new Sheila Canning (Shareena Clanton), which could risk his future with Yashvi Rebecchi.
Ben has now promised that there are interesting times ahead for Ned even beyond this storyline.
Discussing Ned and Sheila's connection, Ben told us: "I thought it was quite a clever storyline. Due to COVID, us actors couldn't do any intimate scenes, which translated to Ned and Vi not being intimate and not connecting as well.
"So to have a storyline that played into that seemed like a great idea to me. Ned is confused. He loves Yashvi and yet he's drawn to spending time with another woman, who inspires him and lifts his self-esteem.
"He's trying to decipher if what he feels for Sheila is just admiration or something more, and if it's something more, then what does he tell Yashvi? He feels guilty for feeling something for Sheila, but at the same time, he knows he's done nothing wrong.
"I think Ned and Yashvi are just realising they want different things from their lives and perhaps their relationship is holding them back from that."
Discussing how this is more complex than a typical soap affair storyline, Ben provided a longer-term tease for the future: "Neighbours is intentionally plotting more complex storylines across the board.
"The next big storyline for Ned is by far the most complex I've ever had on the show."
Ned remains a favourite with Neighbours fans, although some viewers often call for him to get bigger storylines.
Asked about this, Ben laughed: "I would call Ned's next story moderately big! They may have to wait a little longer for a really BIG storyline.
"There's a lot of comic moments in it though, which have been few and far between for Ned, so I think the fans will really like that. No more cakes though. Sorry."
Neighbours airs weekdays at 1.45pm and 5.30pm on Channel 5 (UK) and weekdays at 6.30pm on 10 Peach (Australia).
