Exclusive: Neighbours star Nicholas Coghlan on new tensions as Jay Rebecchi arrives

From Digital Spy

Neighbours spoilers follow for UK viewers.

Neighbours star Nicholas Coghlan has spoken to Digital Spy about the long-awaited arrival of his on-screen son Jay Rebecchi.

Shane and Dipi's son makes his first appearance in Friday's episode (December 4) on Channel 5 after years away studying.

Jay's visit comes as his family remains in turmoil following the revelation of Dipi's affair with Pierce Greyson.

To make matters more awkward, Jay walks straight in on another argument between Shane and Dipi over whether they have a future or not.

Speaking to Digital Spy about the upcoming scenes, Nicholas explained: "Jay has spoken to Toadie, and Toadie has then spoken to Shane about Jay coming. Dipi is the only person who isn't aware that Jay is going to rock up.

"I'm pretty sure that Jay is aware that there are problems within the family. I'm not sure how much he knows in terms of detail, but he knows that there's a great deal of trouble between his parents.

"Jay arrives in the middle of an argument between Dipi and Shane. They're having a go at one another, as Shane is frustrated that Dipi won't talk about their future.

"It's not a particularly big fight, but they're sniping at each other and Jay walks in, right in the middle of that.

"I don't think either Shane or Dipi deals with Jay's arrival particularly well. They're caught up in their own thing. They're not the best parents!"

Jay has often been mentioned since Shane and Dipi moved to Ramsay Street in 2017 with their daughters Yashvi and Kirsha. Dhruv Malge is taking on the role as a guest cast member.

Upcoming scenes will see how Jay deals with his family troubles – and he'll also strike up a friendship with Hendrix Greyson (Benny Turland).

Nicholas added: "Dhruv is lovely and it's great to be able to help introduce a new-ish actor, someone who hasn't had that much experience, to the world of television.

"In my own small way, helping to mentor an actor like that is an amazing thing to be part of."

Neighbours airs weekdays at 1pm and 5.30pm on Channel 5 (UK) and 6.30pm on 10 Peach (Australia).
