Neighbours spoilers follow.
Neighbours star Stefan Dennis has hinted at future revelations over why his character Paul Robinson jilted Terese Willis.
The show's new season began with a shock earlier this week, as Terese was seen tying the knot with Toadie Rebecchi after splitting from Paul a year earlier.
Subsequent scenes explained that Paul left Terese standing at the altar when they were supposed to be reaffirming their commitment to each other at a vow renewal.
Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy about why Paul humiliated Terese, Stefan teased: "I can't tell you why, because it involves an incredibly big storyline which is coming up, and we can't unfold that at all.
"It's nothing like what you think. The one thing that we can tell you is that even though it looks like Paul was being his typical ruthless self, and a selfish person by shunning Terese at the altar, he actually did it for Terese and she doesn't know that.
"She doesn't realise that Paul, in his own way, he was protecting her. That was why he jilted her at the altar."
Rebekah Elmaloglou, who plays Terese, admitted that Paul and Terese fans are likely to be "furious" over the twist.
However, discussing their future, she added: "I don't think it's the end. Surely not!"
Stefan said: "The truthful answer is, we actually don't know. They haven't told us that far ahead yet!"
