NXT’s Undisputed Era is on top of their game. Leader Adam Cole is the current NXT Champion, while Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly are holding the Tag Team titles and Roderick Strong is the North American Champion.
But if the group had to pick a legend from WWE’s past to join the fold, there’s one name who all members can agree on – Hall of Famer, The Heartbreak Kid Shawn Michaels.
"I'm not just saying him because I think he's the greatest to ever," Cole told Digital Spy during a tour of the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida.
"But I feel like Shawn Michaels would be such a cool fit in the Undisputed Era."
Michaels was also the choice of Cole’s teammates Fish and O’Reilly, but they see him in less of a wrestling role and more as an assistant. "He could be someone to shine the belts for us," Fish said. "Or help us carry our bags."
NXT has now made the move from being exclusive to the WWE Network to the USA Network, with a weekly two-hour prime time show. With Cole as the brand’s current champion he couldn’t be prouder to lead NXT into its new era.
"I've been so proud for so long of this brand and our crew," Cole said. "So with this giant move to USA and all these new people finally get the chance to watch us and me being the flag bearer and me being the guy at the top of the mountain, it’s so hard to describe how it feels. But it's a really great feeling.
"We've been saying for almost a year now that NXT is the true third brand of the WWE and this move to the USA Network just solidifies that," Cole continued.
"They used to call it moving up to Raw or SmackDown, but it’s just moving now. Maybe someone from NXT will move to Raw, someone from Raw may move to NXT. It's a cool exciting time for WWE. And I'm glad that NXT is getting the appreciation It deserves."
There’s no denying Undisputed Era is the strongest faction in WWE today, but Cole has always believed there’s strength in numbers, so there was no hesitation when the idea of teaming with his three best friends came up.
"I've been in factions in some capacity for a lot of my career and it's so fun," Cole said. "You have so many different characters to play off of but you can still be an individual.
"I’ve known (Fish, O’Reilly and Strong) for so long and I respect them so much that it was something I was I was all about. There's something about factions that fans just attach themselves to, so I was thrilled from the get-go."
WWE Smackdown Live airs on Sky Sports Arena and Sky Sports Main Event at 1am on Saturdays in the UK and on Fox in the US.
