It's a Sin series finale spoilers follow.

It's a Sin, Russell T Davies' powerful drama highlighting the HIV-AIDS epidemic of the 1980s, came to a heart-wrenching conclusion last night (February 19) as Olly Alexander's character Richie Tozer tragically passed away as a result of the virus.

Now, Nathaniel Curtis – who played Richie's friend, lover and housemate Ash Mukherjee – has spoken exclusively to Digital Spy about the emotional conclusion to the highly-praised drama.

"I'm not someone who really cries, and I spent a lot of time crying about it. The way that these scenes, the tough scenes, were approached, you had people who just took care of you.

"I remember one scene where I had to cry, and it was a bit much. I'd spent the entire day crying and I just said that I needed to go to get some air. Immediately, without even asking – there were no questions – the producer was like, 'Nathaniel's stepping off'.

"I'm very lucky in that I've never lost someone that way that I've been in love with. Just trying to tap into that, it was just so heartbreaking. It really stays with you, actually, filming those kind of scenes. And I love Olly to pieces. I couldn't imagine that."

A further emotional ending took place for Roscoe Babatunde who finally returned home after initially leaving to explore his sexuality. Actor Omari Douglas told Digital Spy: "I'm really glad there's some sort of reconciliation for Roscoe at the end.

"There's a level of compromise without completely losing himself which I think is great, because again, it plays into that thing of authenticity. He's going to make those steps towards reconciliation, but he is going to remain true to himself. I think that was really important to round it off."

It's a Sin is now available to stream in its entirety on All 4.

Organisations including amFAR, Terrence Higgins Trust and the National Aids Trust (NAT) can provide further information on research, testing and treatment for both HIV and AIDS.
