Strictly Come Dancing star AJ Odudu has opened up about her experience hosting The Greatest Auction, insisting the new show is more "fresh" and "modern" than people might think.

She’s fronting the eight-part Channel 4 series, which sees a group of expert collectors enter a bidding war over a wide range of unusual items.

Detailing what makes the show stand out from the crowd, Odudu expressed hopes the production can challenge misconceptions surrounding antiques and auctions.

Chatting exclusively to Digital Spy, Odudu admitted she’s always been interested in collectables, but feels The Greatest Auction adds a "cool" twist on the typical auction show format.

"I actually do love auction shows a lot," the presenting star confessed. "I've always had an interest in fascinating objects and I love meeting new people.

"But [the new show] feels very fresh, very modern, and cool actually."

The Big Brother presenter went on to share her hopes that the show can change how people perceive auctions.

"I think there's this misconception that collectible items have to be from, you know, the 12th century," Odudu remarked. "That they have to be really, really old items and unless it's an heirloom that's been passed down for generations, it's not worth much.

"Whereas I was meeting people who brought in skateboards, handbags, trainers, human bones, everything!

"There’s celebrity hair and pinball machines. Literally something has value to anyone who wants to collect it and that was an amazing learning experience even for me."

Odudu previously addressed the "emotional moments" featured throughout the series, admitting some guests left her in tears.

"You can't help it, but you end up crying with people over objects that you start off not feeling attached to," she said.

The Greatest Auction airs Tuesdays at 8pm on Channel 4.
