Strictly Come Dancing professional Karen Hauer has spoken out about how a "nightmare" injury has impacted her training regime.

The performer has been busy working hard on her Firedance tour, which sees her team up once again with fellow Strictly pro Gorka Márquez.

Chatting exclusively with Digital Spy about her recent jam-packed rehearsal days, Karen revealed an injury she sustained well over a year ago still affects her today.

Detailing the injury she endured, the Strictly star revealed she still regularly suffers from aches and pains after damaging the cartilage in her knee.

"The good news is that I’m not injured now!" Karen remarked. "In December 2021, I tore my meniscus in my left knee, which put me out of action for eight weeks.

"At the time I couldn’t bend or hyperextend my knee, which is a nightmare for a dancer, but I put my all into focusing on physio and rehab and got back on my feet in good time.

"When you’re rehearsing as flat out as we have been for Firedance, let me tell you, your limbs ache at the end of the day!"

Further sharing how she focuses on self-care after a busy workday, Karen highlighted how important it is for dancers to "look after" their bodies.

The Strictly star confessed in the lead-up to her Firedance tour, she’s had to spend a few evenings icing her knee after what she describes as "some long and gruelling rehearsal days".

Karen recently revealed what fans can expect from the tour, which is set to feature a dance-off style performance inspired by blockbuster films such as Moulin Rouge, Romeo and Juliet, and West Side Story.

"We work incredibly hard and we ensure that we are putting on a phenomenal show," she teased.

Tickets for the Firedance tour are available now. The show runs across the UK from February 23 to April 1, 2023.

Strictly Come Dancing airs on BBC One, while spin-off Strictly: It Takes Two airs on BBC Two. Both shows are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
