Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy, the actors explained that Tehran offers a new perspective on "the struggle between Israel and Iran" and will not explore the same ideas as Homeland.
"The beauty of this series is that this has not been done before," said Homeland star Toub. "The struggle between Israel and Iran has not been really shown and it's a very balanced show and I think that's why people will enjoy it and really enjoy the journey.
"It's a fast-paced espionage thriller but at the same time you see the humanity of these characters."
Flawless star Sultan added that she thinks Tehran is the first show to portray "a different point of view of Iran and of Tehran" and that it shows off "the amazing culture and food and music" of the area.
"These are things that haven't really been explored on-screen before and I think that so many people can relate and connect to this," she said.
Although the show was actually filmed in the Greek city of Athens Toub said that the crew have done a great job of representing Tehran, saying: "You can never copy it, but they got the essence of Tehran ... they did such an incredible job with this".
Thriller Tehran follows Tamar Rabinyan (Sultan), a Mossad hacker-agent who uses a false identity to infiltrate Tehran and embark on a mission to help destroy Iran's nuclear reactor.
But when her cover is blown during the mission she ends up trapped in a new life in Tehran and must plan an operation which places everyone she cares about in jeopardy.
The new drama also stars Homeland's Navid Negahban, Baghdad in My Shadow actor Shervin Alenabi, A Late Quartet's Liraz Charhi and Big Bad Wolves star Menashe Noy.
The first three episodes of Tehran will premiere globally on Friday, September 25 exclusively on Apple TV+, with new episodes debuting weekly, every Friday.
