Following in the (successful) footsteps of subversive superhero comedy The Boys, The Expanse will no longer be dropping its entire 10-episode season in one fell swoop.
Instead, the series – which was cancelled by Syfy before being saved by Amazon back in 2018 – will release its first three episodes on Wednesday, December 16, and then continue to roll out one new episode per week, TVLine is reporting.
And hey, that worked very well for The Boys' second season. The Expanse, a sci-fi adventure series grounded in humanity, follows the crew of the illegally-salvaged warship Rocinante, after they stumble upon mysterious alien technology that has no business in doing good.
According to the official synopsis for season five, the show will pick up as "multitudes of humans leave the solar system in search of new homes and vast fortunes" on other, Earth-like worlds beyond the alien Ring.
It continues (via TVLine): "A heavy price for centuries of exploitation of the Belt finally comes due and a reckoning is at hand.
"For the crew of the Rocinante and the leaders of the Inner Planets and the Belt, the past and present converge, bringing forth personal challenges that have wide-reaching repercussions throughout the Solar System."
If you need a recap, seasons 1-5 of The Expanse are currently available to watch on Amazon Prime.
