Air fryers have become extremely popular in recent years, as people look to save energy and reduce fat while preparing meals.

They cook by using hot air, as well as considerably less oil than other methods. And because of their smaller cooking spaces, food is made more quickly than in an oven.

But an expert has issued a warning to anyone thinking of buying one.

In a new Instagram video posted by consumer champion Which?, consumer affairs expert Harry Kind shared things he "wishes he knew" before making such a purchase.

One piece of advice he issued to people was: "Don't spend less than £50". He explained that while people don't need to spend a fortune, "generally" they should spend at least £70.

Harry said this is because "We've found cheaper air fryers that cost so much to run, cook so unevenly, and feel, well, flimsy, that we've named them 'Don't Buy's".

The expert also said buying an air fryer is unlikely to save you much money in the short term. He added that cooking a meal in an air fryer usually saves around 10-40p, so it will take some time for the gadget to pay for itself.
