Expert shares cleaning tips for air fryers including area that many people miss
Owning an air fryer can revolutionise your meal prep, especially when you're short on time or energy. However, maintaining its cleanliness can be a challenge, particularly after cooking oily or greasy foods that stick to the tray's bottom.
One component that's often overlooked during cleaning is the heating element, which needs as much care as the rest of the appliance. Regular inspections are recommended to avoid grime accumulation. Experts told the Irish Examiner that residue on the heating element could cause burning, potentially damaging the appliance and causing unpleasant smells during use.
To keep the element in good shape, gently clean it with a cloth or toothbrush to remove any grease. TikTok user @cleaningwithdanielled demonstrated how she cleans her air fryer using dishwasher tablets. Danielle advised placing one dishwasher tablet in each drawer and soaking them in boiling water for about half an hour.
If you don't have dishwasher tablets, they can be bought from Morrisons at £1.99 for 40, costing just 5p each. After soaking, "empty and rinse", and in the video, a significant amount of grime is seen being washed away, reports the Express.
"The dishwasher tablets will actually break down all the fats and oils", she clarified, "so it can go down your drain." She referred to this method as her "favourite" because it's "so quick and easy to do."
In the comments section, one individual mentioned that they place theirs "in the dishwasher," but Danielle cautioned: "It actually breaks them quicker if put in the dishwasher, so hand washing will longer the lifespan."
Another person proposed: "Kitchen paper folded twice straight in after food is out move it round using silicone spatula wipe with dishcloth once cool cheaper and easier."
