Expert shares how to cut heating bills without spending a penny
An expert has revealed how you can get more heat out of your radiator without spending a penny. All you need is a cloth.
We're all familiar with the routine household tasks such as vacuuming the carpets, wiping down skirting boards, buffing up cabinets, and dusting the ceilings to keep our homes spick and span. However, it's easy to overlook one of the main dust-gatherers in our homes: the humble radiator.
Not only can a dusty radiator be a trigger for allergies, causing unpleasant symptoms like eye irritation and breathing difficulties, but it also reduces the efficiency of your heating system. This inefficiency could lead to higher energy bills without the added warmth.
With the heating switched off and windows open throughout the warm months, our radiators are likely overdue for a thorough cleaning.

With Ofgem recently announcing an increase in the October energy price cap from £1,568 to £1,717, ensuring that your home is as energy-efficient as possible has never been more crucial. The Clean Up Company, a popular TikTok user, demonstrated just how much dust can accumulate inside radiators, reports the Mirror.
The cleaning expert warned on TikTok: "If you're wondering why you've got a lot of dust build up in your rooms, it's probably cause your radiators need cleaning," leaving viewers shocked by the sheer volume of dust and dirt extracted. They added, "Now look how satisfying this is. Look at the dust that is falling from between this radiator now - you wouldn't even know it's there."
A cleaning guru has showcased a nifty trick using a flexible radiator brush to get into all the tricky spots without causing damage. After brushing, she vacuumed the dust that had fallen onto the carpet and gave the appliance a good wipe down.
The video went viral, with hundreds of shocked viewers heading to the comments section to express their gratitude to The Clean Up Company for the tip. "I'm off to get a radiator brush and clean my radiators now," one viewer admitted.
Another said: "Finally, a sensible human cleaning radiator with a radiator brush. [I've] had mine for years."
A third chimed in: "I use those brushes so mine are spotless lol," and a fourth exclaimed: "Great job but how the heck does it get so bad? ! All that dust! " For those inspired to give their radiators a deep clean, radiator brushes are available at local stores or online. Amazon is offering a 120cm long brush for just £9.
Some viewers also recommended using a hairdryer to blow out the dust, or investing in a steamer for a thorough clean.
