Explosive Etna Eruption Disrupts Travel in Sicily

Large plumes of ash were sent into the sky on the Italian island of Sicily early Sunday, August 4, as Mount Etna recorded explosive eruptions in the area.

Footage filmed by Onur Kemal Gungor shows the explosive eruption on Sunday morning from Catania’s central train station.

According to reports, travel to and from the island was disrupted due to smoke and ash from the eruption. Nearby towns were also covered in volcanic ash after the Voragine crater began erupting late last night, the report said. Credit: Onur Kemal Gungor via Storyful
