Final Jeopardy! appeared to be extra tough on Jeopardy!, Monday. In fact, third place contestant Ketty Pan didn’t even bother trying to answer the question and four-day returning champion Megan Wachspress struggled as well.
The category was British History and the clue was, “From the Greek for “alone,” it was nixed by Parliament 1649 after being deemed “unnecessary, burdensome and dangerous.”
Megan incorrectly wrote, "What is the Crown"? She wagered $9,599 of her $10,000, which left her with $401.
Much to the surprise of viewers, Megan lucked out despite her wrong answer as Tory Leviton, who was in first place, also incorrectly answered. However he wagered even more and finish the game in 2nd place.
Megan’s five wins qualified her for the Tournament. With only $52,002 in total winnings, she has less than half as much as any other five-day champion this year.
Megan also only took home $401, while the 2nd and 3rd place winners received the $2,000 and $1,000 constellation prizes.
- Here's your category for "Final Jeopardy!", British history. And here is your clue. "From the Greek for 'alone', it was nixed by parliament in 1649 after being deemed unnecessary, burdensome, and dangerous."
KYLIE MAR: "Final Jeopardy!" appeared to be extra tough on Monday. In fact, third place contestant, Keddie Pan, didn't even bother trying to answer it. And four day returning champion, Megan Wachspress, struggled.
- What did you write down, Megan? What is the crown? That is not correct. And how much did you wager? 9,599. That leaves you with $401.
KYLIE MAR: But much to the surprise of viewers, Megan lucked out despite her wrong answer, as Tori Levitan, who was in first place, also incorrectly answered.
- And how much did you wager, Tori? 10,000, leaving you with $200. Megan Wachspress with a five day total of $52,002. You have qualified for the Tournament of Champions. Congratulations.
KYLIE MAR: Viewers may be right about Megan's lucky win streak. Because despite qualifying for the Tournament of Champions, she has won less than half as much as any other five day champion. That being said, one could also argue that Megan was unlucky because as one viewer pointed out, she actually took home less money than both Keddie and Tori.
Regardless, hopefully her career as a pirate attorney makes up for a lack of large cash prizes.
- Your PhD is in jurisprudence. What was the topic of your dissertation?
MEGAN WACHSPRESS: It was on piracy, actually. The ways in which the legal concept of piracy influenced the development of the English criminal law.
