Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas delighted their fans across the world at the start of 2022, by announcing the arrival of their baby via surrogate.
The couple, who have been married for almost four years, announced the arrival of their child – now confirmed to be a girl and understood to be called Malti Marie – on Instagram on January 23.
‘We are overjoyed to confirm that we have welcomed a baby via surrogate. We respectfully ask for your privacy during this special time as we focus on our family. Thank you so much. [sic],’ read a joint statement on the actor and singer’s respective Instagram pages.
The news came as a surprise to fans, who were unaware the couple were expecting a child.
Celebrities including Jonas’ brothers Kevin and Joe, as well as actors Lily James and Kate Bosworth, subsequently shared messages of congratulations on social media for the pair, who have regularly touched on their desire to start a family in interviews over the years.
Chopra and Jonas openly revealed that their newborn spent more than 100 days in an intensive care unit after her birth, but she is now home.

Priyanka Chopra shared a polaroid-style shot of her, Nick Jonas and their baby girl to her Instagram stories.
It shows the family-of-three in the pool, with Chopra and Jonas sporting dark tinted sunglasses. As per usual, she obscured their daughter's face, however her adorable beach hat was on show. Jonas later re-shared the photo to his own Instagram account.
The trio have been enjoying some California sunshine.

Since welcoming their daughter, Chopra and Jonas have gotten closer, according to E! News.
A source told the news outlet: 'They are very in love. It feels like an ideal marriage. They're a very happy couple just thriving, having fun and still living their lives.
'They work hard, do business, host social events and take care of Malti.'
Explaining how the couple's relationship has developed since they welcomed their first child together, the insider gushed: 'It's like Malti has brought them good luck with how amazing things seem for them all around right now.'

Chopra took to Instagram to share a rare photo with her five-month old daughter. The new mum looked ecstatic as she held her tot in her arms during a hike with her friend, as per the Daily Mail.
At the time, she was wearing a baby harness that was strapped to her sleeveless top, which she teamed with shorts and lace-up boots and accessorised with oversized black shades.
Chopra, who shielded her baby's face with an emoji, captioned the photo: '22 years and counting.. and now with our babies.
'Love you @tam2cul [sic].'
An accompanying hashtag indicated that her friend is also the godmother to her newborn.
21/06/2022: Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas mark first Father's Day since welcoming their baby daughter
To mark Nick Jonas' first Father's Day, he and Chopra both shared heartwarming posts to their Instagram feeds.
The couple posted the same sweet photo of the singer holding up his baby daughter into a standing position, showing them both wearing matching trainers, personalised with Malti Marie initials - a gift from Chopra.
The actor captioned the photo: 'Happy 1st Father’s Day my love. To watch you with our little girl is my greatest joy..what an amazing day to come back home… I love you.. here’s to many more [sic].'
Jonas noted: 'First Father’s Day with my little girl. Thank you @priyankachopra for the incredible Father Daughter sneakers and for making me a daddy I love you so much. Happy Father’s Day to all the dads and caretakers out there [sic].'
16/06/2022: Priyanka Chopra shares new photo of baby girl
The actor shared a photo of her daughter on Instagram to celebrate her own mother's birthday. In the snap, three generations of the Chopra household were seen cooing over the newborn, whose face was hidden from camera.
The snap came days after Jonas opened up to People about parenting with his wife, noting that they've felt 'gratitude' since welcoming their daughter earlier this year and describing her birth via surrogate as 'eye-opening in a lot of ways'.
'It was really important that people know that whatever their journey is or whatever challenges might come up, you're not alone,' he said. 'The power of social media is that it connects us all and makes this very big world a little bit smaller.'
Jonas described his wife and new mother as a 'rock the whole time and continues to be'. 'I'm grateful to have a teammate in Pri,' he added.

'Life is beautiful,' he said.
He added: 'She's a gift and we're just so blessed that she's back home.'
09/05/2022: Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas open up about their 'challenging few months' as parents
After the couple announced in January that they welcomed their first baby together via surrogate, the couple didn't share any photos of their newborn Malti.
However, on May 8, they marked Mother's Day in the US by posting a photo of them with their daughter, though the fiercely private couple hid her face.
They accompanied the photograph with an open and honest message in the caption, reflecting on the 'challenging few months' they faced due to their daughter's stay in an intensive care unit.
It began: 'On this Mother’s Day we can’t help but reflect on these last few months and the rollercoaster we’ve been on, which we now know, so many people have also experienced.'
They added: 'After 100 plus days in the NICU, our little girl is finally home.
'Every family’s journey is unique and requires a certain level of faith, and while ours was a challenging few months, what becomes abundantly clear, in retrospect, is how precious and perfect every moment is. We are overjoyed that our little girl is finally home, and just want to thank every Doctor, nurse and specialist at Rady Children’s La Jolla and Cedar Sinai, Los Angeles, who were there selflessly every step of the way.
'Our next chapter begins now, and our baby is truly a badass. Let’s get it MM! Mommy and Daddy love you.'
The couple then concluded their individual message with sweet sentiments to each other. Jonas wrote: 'I want to take a minute to say a special Mother’s Day wish to my incredible wife @priyankachopra on her first Mother’s Day.
'Babe, you inspire me and every way, and you are taking to this new role with such ease and steadiness.

21/04/2022: Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas' baby's name is revealed
The name of Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas' newborn was reportedly revealed.
According to a birth certificate obtained by TMZ, it became apparent that the couple had chosen to name their baby girl Malti Marie Chopra Jonas.
The certificate also revealed that they welcomed Malti on January 15 shortly after 8pm at a hospital in San Diego, California.
As this point, we were yet to learn whether their baby, who was born prematurely, had been released from hospital yet.
25/02/2022: Priyanka appears to reveal a first look at her baby's nursery
Priyanka Chopra seemingly showed a glimpse of her baby's nursery via an Instagram post shared with her then 74.5 million followers.
On February 24, the new mum posted a series of photos to her Instagram feed, with a simple caption that read: 'Photo dump.' She included a solo pic of herself and another with Jonas in the sunshine, before sharing an image of nursery décor that showed myriad stuffed teddies.
26/01/22: Priyanka and Nick have reportedly wanted a baby for a while
A music insider shed light on the couple’s parenting intentions, revealing to People that the couple have wanted a child for a long time.
‘They are beyond excited,’ shared the source, noting: ‘Nick and Priyanka have wanted a baby for some time.’
Another music management source told the news outlet: ‘This is a happy time for all. Nick and Priyanka are definitely ready for this new challenge in their lives. It is something they have both wanted. Now is their time, and they could not be more ready to raise a child.’
Another source told US Weekly that the pair hope to have ‘at least two children’.
In a recent Vanity Fair interview, Chopra revealed her hopes to become a parent one day.
‘They’re [kids are] a big part of our desire for the future,’ Chopra said. ‘By God’s grace, when it happens, it happens.’
In November 2021 the Baywatch actor seemingly joked that she and her husband were expecting, but little did we know they actually were.
