'Face of a violent man,' say Lancashire Police as they release horrific details of hammer attacks
A man who carried out horrific hammer attacks on two 'vulnerable' people has been jailed. Releasing details of the case, Lancashire Police said: "The man pictured is David Cairney and he is violent."
They said that around lunchtime on March 30, Cairney attacked a man with a hammer inside a flat in Stonyhurst Road, Blackburn. When a woman went to help the man, Cairney attacked her with the same hammer. Cairney then left with the male victim’s wallet and bank card.
Both of the victims suffered a number of serious injuries which required hospital treatment. Following enquiries, 36-year-old Cairney was arrested on suspicion of GBH Assault later the same day.

He was later charged with two counts of Section 18 Wounding and robbery. Cairney, of no fixed address, was today (Tuesday, October 29) found guilty on all counts by a jury at Preston Crown Court.
He was remanded into custody to be sentenced at the same court on December 4. DS Sian Hindle, of East Safeguarding, said: “David Cairney is an extremely violent man who carried out a sickening attack on two vulnerable victims.
“I want to place on record my thanks to all the officers who helped secure these convictions and the jury for their considered verdicts. This kind of violent behaviour will not be tolerated by Lancashire Police and we will do everything in our power to put the perpetrators before the courts.”
