Facebook Founder Changes Status To Married

Facebook's co-founder Mark Zuckerberg has married his longtime girlfriend Priscilla Chan, announcing the wedding through a status update on the social networking site.

Tens of thousands of people "liked" his status change, which was accompanied by a photo of the couple in wedding attire.

The couple tied the knot in a small ceremony at his Palo Alto, California home.

Fewer than 100 guests, who all thought they were there to celebrate Miss Chan's graduation from medical school, attended the wedding.

A company spokeswoman said Mr Zuckerberg designed the ring, which features "a very simple ruby".

Miss Chan also updated her Facebook page. "Married Mark Zuckerberg," she wrote.

The couple met at Harvard, where Mr Zuckerberg co-founded Facebook in a university dormitory eight years ago.

The wedding capped a busy week for the 28-year-old after the social networking site, of which he is also chief executive, was floated on the Nasdaq stock exchange.

Even after the initial public offering on Friday, Mr Zuckerberg remains Facebook's single largest shareholder, with 503.6 million shares. And he controls the company with 56% of its voting stock.
