Facebook and Instagram mysteriously blocks users in Hungary

Facebook users in Hungary have reported that their accounts were deleted without warning or explanation.

Hundreds of people took to Twitter to complain about the issue, which has also hit some users of Instagram, which is owned by Facebook.

The Independent has contacted Facebook for comment on the matter.

"Facebook can you tell me some information about the Facebook banhammer going through Hungary?" one Twitter user wrote.

"I and many of my friends got our accounts disabled. We can't log in and our profile pages are disappeared. We didn't get any reason."

Another user wrote: "Thousands of Facebook accounts were disabled in Hungary because 'You are ineligible to use Facebook.'

"I attached a copy of my ID but nothing happened. Could you give me some information about this?"

The wave of bans appears to have started on Monday, with local media reporting that some have speculated that it is related to users attacking the political opposition in the country.

One blocked user claims to have received the message: "Any violation of our Terms of Use may have additional consequences for your use of Facebook and its family of applications."
