The faces of shamed group who sparked chaos outside Holiday Inn Express
These are the shamed faces of a disorder group after a riot outside the Holiday Inn Express in Tamworth. It follows a group 'protesting' about asylum seekers held inside on August 4.
Mitchell Cleaver had sent various messages to people before the violent disorder asking them to 'burn the place down’ and make it the ‘maddest night in Tamworth history.' Cleaver, 25, later pleaded guilty to the offence of riot and becomes the first person in the West Midlands region to be convicted of riot.
While Cameron Bell livestreamed herself and other members of a group that were carrying planks of wood and metal in Tamworth. Staffordshire Police said the 23-year-old "repeatedly made racist remarks" and told members of the group that they should visit other hotels in the area as part of the disorder.

And Martin McCluskey, 60, threw rocks at police and told an officer he would ‘bite his face off’ in Tamworth. All three await sentencing.
Mitchell Cleaver
Staffordshire Police have become the second force in the UK to secure riot convictions against a man who pleaded guilty in court today (Tuesday, September 17). Mitchell Cleaver, 25, of Burton-on-Trent, sent various messages to people before the violent disorder in Tamworth on August 4, asking them to ‘burn the place down’ and make it the ‘maddest night in Tamworth history’.
Various footage from the scene on Cleaver’s phone showed what happened, including when the Holiday Inn Express window was smashed and a fire was started inside. Brave officers worked valiantly to contain the violence at the scene and were pelted with missiles, fireworks and abuse. One officer was doused in petrol while flames burned through the hotel.
Cleaver was arrested after it happened and questioned in custody. He originally denied his involvement in interview. Police secured the evidence to charge him for violent disorder and later consulted with the CPS over upgrading the offence to riot – unlawful violence – public order, the most serious of the Public Order Act 1986.
Because on evidence, Cleaver pleaded guilty to the offence of riot at Stafford Crown Court today. He has been remanded in custody ahead of his sentencing at the same court on November 11.
Assistant Chief Constable Stuart Ellison said: “Our team of detectives and police staff have been working incredibly hard over the last month to review the vast amounts of footage from the scene in Tamworth and to act robustly against those identified. I can assure local communities that our work is far from over and we’re continuing to take action against those who are found to be responsible for what happened.”
Cameron Bell
A woman who filmed her own involvement in the violent disorder in Tamworth on social media has been convicted in court. Cameron Bell, 23, of Tamworth, livestreamed herself and other members of a group that were carrying planks of wood and metal in Tamworth on August 4.
She repeatedly made racist remarks and told members of the group that they should visit other hotels in the area as part of the disorder. She tried to hide her work ID that she had at the time amid fears of being identified.
She was quickly identified from the footage after concerned members of the community reacted to her livestream. She was dismissed from her place of work and arrested.
Detectives compiled all of the evidence needed to secure charges of violent disorder against Bell. She pleaded guilty to the offence at Stafford Crown Court today, Tuesday, September 17. Bell will be sentenced at the same court on October 28.
Assistant Chief Constable Stuart Ellison said: “We’re continuing to take robust action against those who played a part in the violence in Tamworth last month. Members of the local community and the police officers involved did not deserve to be subjected to the abhorrent acts that day and I can assure them that we will continue to take action against those responsible."
Martin McCluskey
A man who threw rocks at police and told an officer he would ‘bite his face off’ in Tamworth has been convicted. Martin McCluskey, 60, of Bolehall, Tamworth, was seen on footage repeatedly challenging police officers who were on the frontline in the violent disorder on August 4.
McCluskey approached an officer and told him he would ‘bite his face off’ before launching rocks at him. He continued to walk up and down the police line, shouting abuse and launching missiles. The officer he threw the rocks at was also hit with a bicycle that was thrown in his direction.
Despite wearing a public order helmet, the officer still suffered bruising and reddening to his face because of what happened. He was also doused in petrol. McCluskey also kicked a glass bottle at an officer, causing it to shatter against the officer’s shin.
McCluskey was arrested after he was identified by detectives. Police secured the evidence needed to charge him with violent disorder and two counts of assault by beating of an emergency worker. At Stafford Crown Court today, Tuesday, September 17, McCluskey pleaded guilty to the offences. He has been remanded in custody ahead of his sentencing at the same court on October 30.
Assistant Chief Constable Stuart Ellison said: “McCluskey’s actions clearly reflect what the brave officers were faced with that day: acts of mindless criminality and violence with no regard for those trying to keep people safe.
“Our officers showed immeasurable courage in the face of the violence to carry out their duties and keep the public safe from harm. These officers are people living in local communities, with families and friends of their own. They, along with local residents, did not deserve what happened to them.
“We will never tolerate acts of aggression towards officers or members of our communities. McCluskey will be serving time behind bars for his actions, and those who committed similar acts will meet the same fate once our detectives find out who they are.”
