Fake Apple iPhone Factory In China With Hundreds Of Workers Shut Down

A factory that made fake Apple iPhones has been raided in China.

The facility, just outside the capital Beijing, reportedly produced up to 41,000 fake iPhones.

Nine people were arrested in the raid, but it is believe that the factory had hundreds of workers.

It was discovered in May, but only revealed by authorities in Beijing this week.

The factory was run by a husband and wife, according to police, and its staff repackaged second-hand smartphone parts then sold them off as new iPhones for export.

The counterfeit phones made at the factory were worth $19 million (£12m).

Chinese authorities were alerted to the operation by their counterparts in the US. China is currently clamping down on counterfeit goods and the flow of fakes between it and the US.

It isn’t the first time that rotten Apples have been discovered in China. In 2011, a number of fake Apple stores were found in Kunming city.

The stores were so convincing that many staff there thought they were employed by Apple itself.
