A spokesperson for Northern Powergrid said: "At 3.06pm today (Monday 23 September) we were made aware of a power cut in the Rothbury area initially affecting 2,399 customers. The fault was caused by a fallen tree.

"Our teams worked swiftly to switch power on the network, restoring supplies to over 600 customers within a few minutes. Engineers attended site and assessed the fault caused by the fallen tree, and have now restored power to over 1,700 customers.

"Our proactive Customer Responder team will be in the local area to check in on the remaining nine properties still off supply and we estimate their power will be restored by 11pm this evening. We thank customers for their patience while we work to reconnect customers.
