The warning, from the Environment Agency, is focused on the area around Shrewbridge Road. Elsewhere and officers in the town have been dealing with 'a lot of localised flooding'.

In particular and a stretch of Wrinehill Road in Wybunbury was left submerged. Today and a flood warning has been issued for the River Weaver.

"Start acting on your flood plan if you have one. Take care and avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water."

Meanwhile officers with Cheshire Police's rural crime team have urged drivers not to try and get through flooding - after revealing one incident resulted in fire engines being damaged. PC Teasdale, of the team, said: "We’ve responded to one flooding incident where drivers have taken a chance to get through only to find the water is deeper than they expected.

"If you see one vehicle stranded in deep water please do not try to drive past it - because then you will become stranded."

PC Teasdale uploaded a video of the affected road - which has not been named - where the incident occurred. The officer added: "What you can’t see in this video is the deep water and stranded vehicles just around the corner.

"Thankfully those stranded in this floodwater did not come to harm. However taking the chance has initiated a multi agency response which could have been avoided. In addition that’s two engines flooded which becomes costly to repair!

"Remember, a five minute detour is much better than being stranded and needing to be rescued by the emergency services. Please drive responsibly!"

Elsewhere in Cheshire and there are flood alerts at the River Weaver through Frodsham, Crewe, Winsford and Northwich. An alert also remains in place for the River Gowy around Frodsham.
