Family evacuate huge Maida Vale flat fire as flames engulf scaffolding
A family of four evacuated a huge flat fire in West London. Crews were called to Lauderdale Road, Maida Vale yesterday evening at 6.24pm.
Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to the scene with the family evacuating before they arrived to tackle the blaze. There were flames coming out of scaffolding around the flat in question as well as thick smoke.
Smoke alarms sounded to warn residents of the fire and two adults were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation. The fire was over by around 8pm and its cause is under investigation.

Sub Officer Izzy Ryan was at the scene, she said: "On arrival there were flames coming out of the scaffolding around the flat that was on fire, as well as heavy smoke logging.
"Thankfully smoke alarms were sounding and the residents had evacuated before we arrived on scene.
"Two adults were treated on scene by our crews and the London Ambulance Service for smoke inhalation."]
A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: "Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to a fire at a block of flats on Lauderdale Road in Maida Vale yesterday evening.
"Over half of a five roomed flat on the first floor of the building was destroyed by fire. Fortunately a family of four self evacuated before the Brigade arrived.
"The Brigade's 999 Control officers received the first call alerting them to the fire at 1824 and the incident was over by 1958. Fire crews from Paddington, North Kensington and West Hampstead fire stations were at the scene.
"The cause of the fire is under investigation."
