Family Guy's Meg to come out as a lesbian?

It has been reported that Family Guy’s Meg Griffin will be coming out as a lesbian in a future episode of the hit animated show.

The character, voiced by Mila Kunis, has already seen her sexuality play a significant role in previous episodes of the cartoon, but a permanent label has never been put on it.

However, showrunner Alec Sulkin has now revealed that bosses want to develop Meg’s character more thoroughly, alongside that of her brother, Chris, voiced by Seth Green.

Speaking to Splitsider, he explained: “That’s definitely something we’re working on. We certainly try to do episodes with them. The thing about Chris is that he’s so goofy; he’s a lot like Lenny from Of Mice And Men.

“Those characters are probably the most one-dimensional on the show. We are working on that, though. There’s one story we have, it’s by no means final, but it would involve Meg coming out as a lesbian.”

In an episode named Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story, Meg transitioned into a man named Ron, with Alec saying of that decision: “Sometimes, we do things that go against continuity. We try to explain it, but sometimes, if it doesn’t fit in, we tend to make a joke about it.”

So, it looks like if Meg does come out as a lesbian it will be for the remainder of the show’s run – however long that may be.

Family Guy was originally cancelled by Fox in 2002 but the high volume of DVD sales and high re-run ratings convinced the network to renew the show.

Family Guy returned to our screens in 2005 and is currently in its 15th series.
