This is the first picture of an “ambitious and inquisitive” teenager found stabbed to death in a car crash in the West Midlands.

Derlarno Samuels, 17, was stabbed before fleeing the scene in a car that crashed in Heath Street, Smethwick, at around 4.10pm on Saturday.

He was taken to hospital but sadly pronounced dead around an hour later.

Police said that minutes earlier he was allegedly chased into a shop in Waterloo Road, Smethwick, and attacked with a knife.

A post mortem has given the cause of Derlarno’s death as a stab wound.

Derlarno’s family paid tribute to the teenager and said: “Derlarno was ambitious, inquisitive and full of life.

“He was a generous young man who is much loved and missed by his family and friends.”

Cam-Ron Dunn, who was arrested in the early hours of Sunday morning, was charged with murder on Monday.

Dunn, from Smethwick, remains in police custody and will appear at Birmingham Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Det Insp Hannah Whitehouse, from West Midlands Police’s Homicide Unit, said: “Our thoughts remain with Derlarno’s family who are being supported by our specially trained officers at this tragic time.

“We are still working to establish the full circumstances and we would ask anyone with information about what happened get in contact, in particular anyone who witnessed any disorder around the Waterloo Road/Cape Hill/Windmill Lane junction between 3pm and 4.30pm.

“So if you have any information and have not already spoken to officers, message us on live chat via the website or call us on 101. Please quote crime ref 20/549867/21.”
