Binley Mega Chippy took the internet by storm with a catchy tune and packed location two years ago.

But after its time in the social media spotlight, members of the public are split on the quality of food served by the notorious fish and chip shop. Owner Kamal Gandhi, 70, has received visitors from all over the globe with his famous takeaway joint even noted by TikTok's official account in a tweet from the peak of its interest.

"Hello to everyone who has Binley Mega Chippy all over their FYP and the song in their head rent free rn," a post from TikTok's official UK account read. But recent reviews of the Binley fish and chip shop show a split opinion on the food served there.

Reviews on TripAdvisor showed some were less than content with their orders while some were still loving the store which shot to fame thanks to a catchy song posted on social media. The most recent review was full of praise for the "piping hot" food, with Gillian B visiting the premises earlier this month.

Her five-star review read: "Fantastic chips, battered sausages and a scallop. Had to wait for fresh chips - no problem - worth the wait, piping hot, not greasy." Another five-star review added: "Lovely, friendly staff. Fantastic food. Competitive price. All our family love the food from this chip shop. We visit at least once a week."

But a handful of reviews from May and July were less than pleased with their visit, dubbing it a "vile" food experience while another says the promotion of the brand did not match up with the quality of food on sale. One user who visited in July 2024 wrote: "Ordered a large mixed kebab got it home and it was tiny , the tikka was vile , mushy salad threw it away disgusting . Would never go there again."

Another review, titled "truly revolting", fumed: "They may have excelled at self praise and promotion..but sadly the food and service aren’t reflected in their blousy claims.. Fish was soggy mush in batter, curry sauce was watery and frankly vile.. the chips were tiny and pointless.. The staff also don’t seem to deduce that fish, chips and curry sauce might be best served in a tray .. Appalling place .. wouldn’t eat here again if it were free.."
